Biology Core Curriculum (Biocore)
|
| The Biology Core Curriculum (Biocore) is an award-winning intercollegiate honors program. It is a challenging four semester introductory biology sequence that provides a broad, in-depth, and integrated background for students interested in any area of biological science. Biocore is not a major but fulfills some or all of the biology requirements for a variety of biological science majors, including many in the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences as well as in the College of Letters & Science and the School of Education. The faculty and staff associated with the program are drawn from departments across campus and are deeply committed to undergraduate education. |
| Writing Fellows Program |
| Writing Fellows are assigned to Writing Intensive or Comm-B courses in which they work closely with professors as well as student writers. Fellows read and critique drafts of two formal papers; in addition to making marginal comments, they write extensive endnotes designed to identify and explain key areas for revision. They seek to praise what works in a paper as well as point out what doesn't work, and they try to offer suggestions and strategies for revision rather than merely pointing out flaws. After returning these drafts, Fellows meet individually with each writer to discuss revision possibilities and strategies. Two central beliefs guide this program. The first is that all writers, no matter how accomplished, can improve their writing by sharing work in progress and making revisions based on constructive criticism; the second is that collaboration among student peers is an especially effective mode of learning. |

The Center builds on the Wisconsin Idea, a strong tradition of service to the community by students, faculty and alumni. The center encourages students to participate in public service both as a contribution to a just and caring society and to strengthen their educational and personal growth. It fosters student initiative in creating, developing, and evaluating service experiences. It expands the campus teaching and learning environment by supporting the development of service-learning courses and learning experiences outside the classroom. And, the center promotes and supports a university-wide commitment to social change through public service. |
| Wisconsin Union Directorate |
| You may not know us, but you likely know what we do. Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD), helps to plan, manage and promote nearly 1,000 events, activities, and programs on the UW-Madison campus annually. We are comprised of students who run 10 unique committees and 1 club. Each committee specializes in various areas that offer opportunities to participate, lead, and enjoy. As UW-Madison students we invite you to join one committee, or many, of your choice and gain valuable skills as a committee member and leader. Please see our committee web pages for further information. |

| Pathways to Excellence (L&S Student Academic Affairs) |
| No one pathway can serve all students - each discovers their passion for learning in different places and different ways. But whether students find their pathway to excellence in a classroom, a research lab, a residence hall, or the Memorial Union, such experiences have one crucial quality in common - each puts undergraduates at the heart of the university, at the center of learning. The Pathways to Excellence unit consists of a wide array of programs and services including: Faculty Diversity Liaisons; Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS); African American, American Indian, Chicano/a, and Southeast Asian American Student Services; residential learning communities (Chadbourne and Bradley); and more. |
